17-year old La Masia graduate Gavi scored his first goal for Barcelona in their 3-2 win against Elche. Barca came into this game in pretty poor form conceding a late goal against Osasuna and losing a friendly against Boca Juniors on penalties. They recorded a nervy win this time around albeit letting a two-goal lead slip.

Barcelona were absolutely brilliant in the first half, particularly the youngsters Gavi and Jutgla who is making his first start of the season. Jutgla scored 16 minutes into the game heading home a corner to give Barca the lead. Then, Gavi scored a beautiful solo goal to extend the Blaugrana's lead. He made an exquisite turn initially to get past two defenders, then sat the centre-back to the ground and found the bottom corner.

In the second half, Elche responded with goals in the space of 90 seconds to equalize. Nico Gonzalez scored a late winner in the 85th minute of the game to save Barca's blushes.

Xavi was full of praise for Gavi, who scored a goal and set up the winner. The Spaniard's contract runs out in the summer of 2023 and the Barcelona manager has said that they will do all they can to keep him at the club.

“The way he plays the game is spectacular and he has ambition and personality”, as per reports from Marca. He is the future of this club. But not only him, also Araujo, Balde, Nico, Abde. They are the future of the team and the club. They are a fantastic generation. At that age I was scared, but they are wonderful.

“Gavi is a difference maker and I’m delighted to have him but I don’t want to compare him to anyone. He has no ceiling.”

Real Madrid drop points against Cadiz

Real Madrid were held to 0-0 by relegation-threatened Cadiz at the Santiago Bernabeu. Eden Hazard returned to the side which was confirmed by manager Ancelotti in the pre-match press conference.

Real was missing several key stars in Luka Modric and Marco Asensio who were out due to COVID-19 and Dani Carvajal was sidelined due to injury.

The Los Blancos struggled to break down the Cadiz defence which operated on a defensive low-block. Cadiz, one of the most defensive teams in La Liga, had only 18% of the ball during the entire game. Real had to resort to long-range shots as there wasn't any space in between the lines to work with.

Eden Hazard, who was making his first start since September, failed to utilize his chance. He started on the right but drifted to the middle to leave Lucas Vazquez a lot of space but couldn't impact the game as he would have liked.
